There is a large number of girls enrolled in Shia PG college. Despite that the college never differentiates between students on the basis of gender, it is the responsibility of college administration to cater to gender-specific needs of students. Unlike boys who have the tendency to express themselves more frankly, girls have inhibitions in sharing their problems. Therefore, in a coeducational setting, there is need to provide a private space to girls where they may interact among themselves without the interference of boys. The Girls’ Common Room of Shia PG College which is located adjacent to the Principal’s office serves the important purpose of bringing the girls together to share their common concerns. This is also the place where lady teachers can instruct the girl students about their reproductive hygiene, safety issues and emotional health.
