Indian Knowledge System

Amar Shaheed Kanchan Singh Autonomous P.G. College has undertaken significant initiatives to integrate the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) within its academic framework. These initiatives aim to preserve traditional knowledge, promote its application in modern contexts, and foster a broader understanding of India’s cultural heritage, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The college focuses to develop a vibrant ecosystem that integrates IKS, raises awareness about intellectual property rights (IPR), and creates an environment conducive to research and innovation.

Integration of Indian Knowledge System (IKS):

Amar Shaheed Kanchan Singh Autonomous P.G. College is committed to incorporating the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into its academic and extracurricular activities, ensuring that students develop a comprehensive understanding of traditional knowledge systems alongside modern academic disciplines.

Objectives of IKS Initiatives:

  • Embed Indian Knowledge Systems across Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, and Education curricula to provide students with a holistic understanding of traditional and modern knowledge frameworks.
  • Encourage faculty and students to explore, document, and analyze ancient Indian texts, legal traditions, scientific advancements, and cultural practices to promote innovation and interdisciplinary learning.
  • The college seeks to preserve and promote India’s rich intellectual heritage by incorporating IKS into its curriculum and fostering research in traditional knowledge systems.
  • Through a series of programs, the college endeavors to sensitize students to the cultural, philosophical, and intellectual dimensions of IKS, helping them appreciate the depth of India’s ancient knowledge systems.

Key Activities:

  1. Curriculum Development: To integrate IKS across various disciplines, the college has introduced courses and modules related to Ayurveda, Yoga, Vedic Mathematics, Vastu Shastra, classical arts, and Indian philosophy. These courses encourage students to study and understand traditional knowledge systems within modern educational frameworks.
  2. Research and Documentation: The college actively promotes research focused on documenting and analyzing traditional knowledge. Both faculty and students engage in projects that study ancient texts, indigenous practices, and technologies, contributing to the preservation of India’s rich intellectual legacy.
  3. Cultural Programs and Workshops: A variety of cultural programs, workshops, and seminars are organized to celebrate and promote the Indian Knowledge System. These events provide students with exposure to experts in traditional arts, literature, and sciences, allowing them to engage directly with India’s cultural heritage.

Outcomes:

  1. Student Engagement: The integration of IKS into the curriculum has led to heightened student interest in traditional knowledge systems. Students are increasingly eager to explore the intersections between IKS and modern disciplines, fostering a more holistic approach to education.
  2. Cultural Awareness: Through cultural programs and workshops, the college has successfully instilled a sense of pride and cultural awareness among students. These initiatives have contributed to their overall development by broadening their understanding of India’s intellectual and cultural traditions.
